How to play Roulette

Whenever we see a casino on television or elsewhere we immediately think of the Roulette table and people sat around it placing their chips to bet on where the ball will land. This game has been popular for many years and is very easy to pick up giving you the chance to win some money and have fun at the same time, it can even be played at home with the family for fun and is still as enjoyable.

It originated in France and has changed little over the years, the modern table that is used nowadays in all casinos was developed as far back as 1842.

There are basically three main items that you must have to play this game, the Roulette Wheel, a Betting Area and chips that you place in the betting area before the ball is spun.

The Roulette Wheel is standard all over Europe, it has 36 slots that the ball can finish in, these are numbered 0-36 but if you are playing in the US they use a different wheel which has 37 slots as they have also added 00 to the standard range, bear this in mind as it can decrease the chance of you actually winning if you are betting on a single number.

The Betting Area comprises of two separate areas, on the inside are squares that contain the numbers found in the Wheel with 0 and 00 at the top, these are arranged in three numerical rows. On the outside of the betting area there are other sections that cover red or black numbers, odd or even numbers and different groups of numbers.

The playing chips are always a different colour for each player, in a casino these chips are confined to that table only, you cannot take your chips and move to another Roulette table and start playing. You purchase your chips as you sit at the table and the reason for the different colours is to prevent any arguments about who has bet on whichever number or combinations of numbers. When you have finished playing the chips you have remaining are replaced with standard chips and these are taken to the payout desk or “cage” as it is commonly known to refund your money.

Every table will have a minimum bet that you can place, if for example this was equivalent to 5 pounds then you have to bet 5 pounds on the inside betting are or five pounds on the outside betting area, you cannot split the bet between both areas, of course if you wish you can bet on both areas but this will cost you at least 10 pounds. Each table will also have a maximum bet, you cannot bet any higher than this or the bet will be refused.

On the inside of the betting are where the squares of numbers are placed you can make several different bets with different payouts if you win. These are as follows:-

As well as betting on the actual numbers you can also bet on the outside are of the betting table by placing your chips in the relevant boxes.

If you are betting on a red or black number the payout is simply 1 to 1, the same applies if you are betting on odd or even.

There are three boxes marked 1-12, 13-24, 25-36 . If you bet on these and you get a number in the range that you bet on the payout is only 2 to 1. If the ball lands in 0 or 00 you lose your money.

Each turn the person in charge of the wheel slowly spins the wheel and then sends the ball rolling in the opposite direction, there are little segments on the border of the wheel which will cause the ball to jump as well as spin around the wheel, when the ball comes to rest in a slot, a marker is placed on that slot and no more bets can be placed while the marker is there. The marker is removed once all of the losing chips have been collected and the winners paid out and then betting commences again ready for the next spin. Do not place any chips while the marker is in place or this will bbe classed as a void bet and you will lose those chips.

The odds are always against you in this game but people do win at this when they have a winning streak, be careful if you do play in a casino, we have all heard of the winning systems. In reality these do not exist and this game is pure chance, do not listen to anyone who says the have a system for sale, it will never work.

Only take money with you that you can afford to lose, if you do win all the better but never put yourself in a position where you have lost money required for other things, this game is supposed to be for fun mainly so do not think you can use it to make a fortune.

If you wish to make your money last longer, sit at a full table, it will take longer for each spin to occur and you will not be able to place as many bets through the night as you would with a table that only has 2-3 players on it.
